Chrysler To Stop Leasing Their Own Cars?

A guy walks into a Chrysler dealership, says I want to lease a car, the salesman says, “sorry, we don’t lease cars.” The guy says, no really, where do I go to lease a new Chrysler? The salesman says how about your bank?

Sounds like a joke right?

Well at the end of July that is exactly what you are going to hear if you ask your local Chrysler dealer about leasing options….There aren’t going to be any. Chrysler, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to get out of the leasing game because it isn’t worth doing anymore. Something about SUV’s and trucks piling up.

Note to Management..Making your cars isn’t worth doing anymore!

Twenty percent of Chrysler cars and trucks are leased. I just don’t understand how you walk away from that business. If you are getting out of it because you are losing on the other end of the lease, then make a better friggin’ car that can hold it’s value! Think about it for a second. Strip away twenty percent of your existing customer base right now, today, and tell me what is going to happen to you.I mean how do you take away the ability for 20% of your customer base to finance a vehicle from you? You guys are running this business like you are in it for the short term. Oh, that’s right, you’re owned by Cerberus Capital Management, you are in it for the short term.

I wonder how a guy who has been working the line for Chrysler for 15 or 20 years thinks about the way his company is being run. I wrote a post a while back about how Cerberus is running this company into the ground and that they will be long gone when the chickens come home to roost and unfortunately, everything I read points to a huge coming home party…just a matter of how soon!
