Johnson & Johnson Shows Financials How to Make a Buck!

In a breath of fresh air, Johnson & Johnson announced better than expected Q3 results yesterday….hear that? Better than expected! Johnson & Johnson posted earnings of $1.17 per share, beating the street by 6 cents on revenue of $15.9B. A friggin’ men! The stock opened yesterday at $66.50 and S&P gives JNJ 5 stars, a serious buy ranking.

Man, I haven’t had as many good things to say in months. Obviously, Johnson & Johnson’s defensive brands like Band-AID, Listerine, Tylenol, and Stay Free, it’s easy to see why JNJ had better than expected results. When you think about it, it makes sense. I mean, how many people have needed Tylenol or Motrin to nurse a hangover? Or Listerine to mask the smell of the Jack Daniels they need to get through a torturous day at office, and don’t forget Pepcid, for the inevitable heartburn you get every day from trading out of all those losses! Come to think of it, these guys should have done better!

But on a serious note

It’s time for this country to realize our future rests in the hands of the manufacturing sector. We need a rebirth of heavy industry that we can count on being here for years to come. This vapor paper we have been feeding off this entire decade has shown us exactly where we went wrong. We have no foundation and the house we built was built on more shit than a Staten Island landfill. I’m just sayin’.

I want to hear more about how manufacturing will save the country. I thought we’d priced ourselves out of the sector. How can we stay competitive with outsourcing, etc.? Do post.

@Drea-I thought you would never ask!

Labor-No doubt you have me there.
Quality-Easier to enforce and manage when you speak the same language
Transportation-How much do you think it costs to send a container from China to LA or Delaware, then transport it to your distribution center, then transport it to your customer’s warehouse, then to their stores? I know, it is a ton of money, and God forbid you have to send something air!
Liability-How many kids are sick or dead from the latest milk thing coming out of China?
Goodwill-I have a 3 year old, think I will buy anything from Fisher-Price again?
Goodwill part 2-Having “Made in the USA” on your product….and it mean something this time!

There is enough infra-structure work to last till the end of the century and that can’t be out sourced! And even if we had the cash what we would never get is the political will.
