Having kids makes you consider things you would have never paid attention to prior to being handed your bundle of joy. When the doctors placed my daughter in my arms for the first time it was clear that there wasn’t anything in this world that I wouldn’t do to make sure she never felt a moments worth of discomfort.
Unfortunately there are people as well as entire cultures who don’t feel the same as I do. In fact, there are those that would consider having a daughter a failure and opt to abort.

I am as pro choice as you can get. If for no other reason than the state should have no say in what a woman can do with her body. That is between her and her creator and I don’t get to be the guy to tell her otherwise.
You’re asking how the hell this matters in a business blog right?
It seems the big three (Google,Yahoo,MSN) have gotten themselves in a spot of bother in India. Indian anti-abortion activists have targeted the trio for accepting sex determination products into their respective ad networks. This is a big no-no in India as it tries to clean up its act with respect to selective termination of unwanted female fetuses.
Meanwhile, back in the U.S., there could be serious blowback from anyone who controls an advertising budget and has a reproductive system, which is my way of saying how the hell do you guys get yourselves into this mess? It is illegal in India to promote prenatal gender determination products.
None of the accused has spoken publicly due to ongoing legal proceedings, but we aren’t just talking Miley Cyrus photos here, these are serious accusations that will have a far reaching effect on each of your businesses. If your respective answers are that you did it because if you didn’t the other guys would, that’s a bad answer.
I just read my TOS from one of the ad networks and here is a partial list of what I can’t do.
I can’t sell:
- Drugs
- Guns
- Porn
- Gambling Content
- Booze
- Tobacco
- Knock-offs
- Term Papers
Or anything else that promotes illegal activity or infringes on the legal rights of others.
Hmmmm, let’s see, getting my parents a test kit to see if I have a vagina, and if I do then they abort me seems to fall under the category of infringing on the rights of others. Anyone? Anyone?

It seems very short-sighted of all 3 companies. Surely, someone must have told them that not only were they breaking the law, but also entering into very murky territory ethically.
Kate,
That’s for sure!
Thanks for stopping by!
Robert
Is it at all possible they could try the “we didn’t know” b s. It is so hard to imagine that this is still going on in this the Twenty First Century. Are they that arrogant to think they could get away with it? How can cultures change from this centuries old concept of females having no value? It really pisses me off that humans are SO STUPID!!!!!!
