It’s Monday morning and the start to a fantastic week. I am happy to announce we have added a new category here at Blabrmouth.com aptly named “Companies to Mock.” I opened this category for companies that consistently do dumb things. If you have read this far I am sure you are wondering what company has the distinction of making it on the list first.
Drum roll please….
And the winner is…Sprint. For all that Sprint does wrong; horrible customer service, mismanaged integration of Nextel, and the continued deterioration of what was once a solid subscriber base. But that’s not the latest or greatest. Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the CEO suite, Dan Hesse has decided to put the collective Sprint brand in his mouth along with his foot. During a National Press Club event Mr. Hesse was quoted as saying that the Android open source operating system is not “good enough to put the Sprint brand on it.”
Mission Accomplished: You are now redundant!
Let’s see, you drop your WiMax program after sinking $5 billion into it, then bring it back, then you don’t even get the bat off your shoulder with Apple and their runaway success with the iPhone, instead allowing at&t breathing room and the ability to become the hottest carrier in the space.
Now you tell the world that the next big thing isn’t good enough for you to promote. Newsflash Dan, this phone, this operating system, this product, is going to be bigger than the iPhone by factors we can’t even count yet due to the open source architecture versus Apple’s closed platform.
Either way you eff’d it up Dan, but why should you worry, you will parachute out soon enough with your fat check and when asked what you would have done differently, you can tell CNBC that you should have adopted the Android sooner, cause Sprint will adopt the Android Dan, with or without you. By the way, here’s an FYI, randomly wandering the streets of New York makes you look lost and confused, not hip and connected, but then again, maybe you’re using the Sprint Navigation service…now I understand!
