While I have had my way with companies and industries alike, I haven’t spoke much about the market as a whole, so after a stellar day yesterday I thought I’d kick it around a bit. The Dow was up 889 points yesterday, the second highest gain in a single day ever….did you make any money? Read more

OPEC Cutting Output; Thank You Sir May I Have Another!

OPEC is meeting today in Vienna to discuss oil output reductions that could further widen the worldwide economic slump if played out incorrectly. Cut too much, and OPEC creates gridlock again on a global scale. Too little, and the 13 member OPEC countries will continue to have too much inventory Read more

Pepsi Taking Bath in Water!

And in business news, the weakest excuse for not hitting your numbers this quarter comes from…..Pepsi. That’s right Ladies and Gentlemen, the 100 year old beverage behemoth with sales of $39B in 2007, had their lunch handed to them by a glass of water. Before I explain, let me say that in all of history, has nothing been more mundane, more generic, more commoditized than the ordinary glass of water. Read more

Johnson & Johnson Shows Financials How to Make a Buck!

In a breath of fresh air, Johnson & Johnson announced better than expected Q3 results yesterday….hear that? Better than expected! Johnson & Johnson posted earnings of $1.17 per share, beating the street by 6 cents on revenue of $15.9B. A friggin’ men! The stock opened yesterday at $66.50 and S&P gives JNJ 5 stars, a serious buy ranking.

Man, I haven’t had as many good things to say in months. Obviously, Johnson & Johnson’s defensive brands like Band-AID, Listerine, Tylenol, and Stay Free, it’s easy to see why JNJ had better than expected results. When you think about it, it makes sense. I mean, how many people have needed Tylenol or Motrin to nurse a hangover? Or Listerine to mask the smell of the Jack Daniels they need to get through a torturous day at office, and don’t forget Pepcid, for the inevitable heartburn you get every day from trading out of all those losses! Come to think of it, these guys should have done better!

But on a serious note

It’s time for this country to realize our future rests in the hands of the manufacturing sector. We need a rebirth of heavy industry that we can count on being here for years to come. This vapor paper we have been feeding off this entire decade has shown us exactly where we went wrong. We have no foundation and the house we built was built on more shit than a Staten Island landfill. I’m just sayin’.

SiriusXM Falling Towards Earth, Karmazin Swears Sky isn’t Falling

As you can imagine, keeping track of everything going on in the business world is pretty time consuming. It even gets pretty boring. But some companies are fun to write about. I used to like writing about SiriusXM but now, every time I think about this complete abomination of a radio company I get a little bit of throw up in my throat. I noticed yesterday that the stock is trading at about $.50 a share, which is up 50% from current lows.

Now, I am saying to myself WTF?

How does a monopolistic organization continue to lose revenue, market share, and vaule? How can you have an entire industry helping you sell your product and you still can’t make a go of it? I am really getting tired of Karmazin’s “everything is great, drink the fucking Kool-Aid you bitches” speech. You have a responsibility to your shareholders Mel and you are grossly underachieving.

I read your projections, 6 million cars throws off $300M in revenue, that’s great, if you weren’t paying Stern $500M you would be OK. By the way, how’s he doin’ for ya? He has kind of lost his relevancy now that there are more people reading this blog than listing to him….ok, sorry, got pretty full of myself there. Anyway, let’s go Mel, stop telling me how great things can be and let’s start executing. You are sitting on an untapped pot of gold and you are shitting the money bed! I love that line!
